Arsene Wenger has hailed the club’s academy players claiming there are ‘six or seven’ stars in the Junior team that will “guarantee” the club a bright future.
Wenger who is known best for giving academy players the chance to progress to the first team has revealed there are about seven players in the academy knocking on the first team door.
The likes of Jack Wilshere, Hector Bellerin and Alex Iwobi have made the step from the club’s academy to the first team in recent years and Wenger says there is more to come from the academy set up.
While speaking about the club’s new golden boy Alex Iwobi, Wenger revealed there are other similarly talented youngsters who will guarantee the club success in the future.
‘Alex Iwobi came here at the age of eight or nine years old and that means the club has a meaning to the [young players],’ said Wenger, as quoted by the Metro.
‘If he makes it, we will have players that really carry the values of our club through the generations.
‘That for me is vital. Winning is vital as well, but we want to combine both. We want to win and be proud of the values that represent our club.
‘We have many players with big quality,’ continued Wenger.
‘The guys that are with me now like Chris Willock who is very impressive, Jeff Reine-Adelaide is with us on a daily basis, Reiss Nelson is with us also.
‘We have a few players, and behind the team is a core of six or seven players, I won’t name them all now, but are a guarantee for the future of Arsenal Football Club.’
One can easily say that the three names Wenger has mentioned are direct replacement for Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini – who are all expected to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.
