Arsenal suffered a shock 2-1 defeat which keeps them sixth in the Premier League table but they have now fallen to 13 points outside of the Champions League places.

Pundit Ruud Gullit has explained why Petr Cech took to Twitter to apologise for his performance against Brighton on Sunday.

Both of Brighton’s goals, which were scored by Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray, could have been avoided and Cech took the blame after the match.

However, Gullit thinks the experienced goalkeeper only did so take the pressure off manager Arsene Wenger.

When asked if Cech tweeted to take the pressure off Wenger, Gullit said: “Yes, I think so.

“For someone with this experience you don’t see this happening.

“The first one he would punch it but he wanted to take it in his hands.”

Cech tweeted: “If you want to win a game away of home in the best league in the world your GK can’t concede 2 goals like I did today … it’s simply not possible …

“The team fought back but the damage was done.”

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp admitted Cech should have done better with the goals but said he was not helped by his defence in the lead up to them.

“From Arsenal’s point of view it’s comical defending,” the former Liverpool midfielder said.

“(Laurent) Koscielny receives the ball there, Jack Wilshere doesn’t really want it. He plays it into him but a bad pass.

“What I will say after that is that you have to compliment what Brighton do.

“Good header, I think Petr Cech should save that if I’m honest. But the delivery is spot on, it really is good.”
