Robert Pires wants Arsene Wenger to make a couple of quality signings this summer despite Arsenal’s lack of Champions League football.

Wenger is looking to rebuild the squad after a poor campaign which saw us finish outside the top four for the first time in 21 years. It’s been suggested by many pundits that Arsenal would struggle to attract its top targets because of lack of CL football but Pires believes otherwise.

Pires doesn’t only think Arsenal can attract big players, he also believes we can win the league next season but insists our chances of doing so, will first and foremost depend on our ability to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, and then signing two or three top players.

“This summer for Arsene Wenger is very important,” Pires is quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

“In my opinion, he needs to try to extend the contracts of Alexis and Mesut Ozil. This is the first thing, and after of course you need to sign new players.

“Everything has changed because we’re not playing in the Champions League, but we must focus and look forward to the new season.

“The most important thing is to win the Premier League, for him, the players and the fans.

“I believe in Arsene Wenger, I believe in this squad, I believe in the young players like Alex Iwobi and Hector Bellerin. When I see the names on the paper or the squad, it’s very good.

“Some players can play at a very high level and play for the national team.

“Maybe Arsene Wenger [would like] two or three more players but the stability is here because he’s extended his contract.”

Arsenal have already completed the signing of Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette on a free transfer and are being linked with big money moves for Thomas Lemar, Riyad Mahrez and Kylian Mbappe, all of whom are quality signings and will go a long way in improving our squad.

Gooners have long been waiting for the period when Arsenal will make a huge statement in the transfer market and it looks like it is finally going to happen this summer.

Should Wenger be successful in signing our top targets, it could just be the first huge step in our attempt to win the league title next season.
