AS Roma are interested in extending the stay of on loan Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
The Polish International was loaned out to the Giallorossi following the summer arrival of Petr Cech at the Emirates. Szczesny himself has gone on to displace experienced Custodian Morgan De Sanctics in the Italian capital with his fine performances.
With Petr Cech certain to continue in goal as the undisputed first choice next season, Gazzetta dello Sport reports via the Metro that the Italian side want to negotiate an extension to Szczesny’s stay in Italy, with another loan move for the 2016/17 season very much likely.
The Polish International has made numerous appearances in all competitions for Roma helping them into the next round of the champions league.
It is understood that the managerial change at Roma would have no effect on the deal. Sky Italia reported that Walter Sabbatini, the sporting director at Roma, is seeking to open talks with Arsenal about the possibility of the loan extension.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is of the believe that Szczesny has a future at the Emirates and as such would entertain the idea of a further year on loan as Petr Cech turns 34 before the end of the season.
Wenger’s ideal scenario much like last summer is thought to be keeping Szczesny at the club while he gains valuable experience from Cech but the Pole’s demand for regular football and refusal to be second choice only points at a loan extension with Roma.
