With few weeks before the January transfer window opens, there will be no simmering down on the number of players Arsenal will be linked with and the latest one is Lyon’s attacking midfielder, Nabil Fekir according to Mirror.
Reports have it that the 21-year old has been watched by former French Arsenal player turned scout, Giles Grimandi, and a potential £8m swoop is being readied.
Though he made his debut over a year ago at the Stade Gerland, this has really been Nabil’s breakout season in the Ligue 1, developing some consistency in his game which has seen him more of a goal threat in resonance with the wide attacking potential he has always had. Lyon currently lie third on the log in the race for the Championnat this season and it is largely due to the trio of Alexandre Lacazette, Dimitri Payet and Nabil Fekir. While Lacazette leads the way on the top scorers chart for the whole League at 11 goals, Nabil is not too far behind having netted 6 times in 12 games, looking on course for a very successful season.
Wenger has been impressed with the French-Algerian this season and could be tempted to make an official enquiry for his services in January.
Having waited long to get real opportunities to show his stuff, Nabil has earned himself widespread acclaim this season as one of the brightest prospects of French football, leading to him earning his first call to any French National team set up, starring for Yaya Sanogo and co in the Under-21s. Lyon could be hesitant in letting go of the promising youngster especially as they have let him go in the past but have had to recall him due to very impressive talent shown upon departure, again considering they are aiming for a real push for a Champions League place. However, it could come down to the econometrics and an £8m fee could be sufficient to force the issue.
There is no one who has a better insight into the potential of young upcoming French players and though he has favoured more a German-English revolution over the years, Wenger won’t let the best slip through his hands and there’ll surely be more to be expected from the club by way of perseverance in pursuit, especially if to youngster continues to bloom this season at the Stade Gerland.
Nabil is part of a host of French players on whom Arsenal is keeping tabs, some of the others including Paul-Georges Ntep and Nabil’s Lyon teammate, Alex Lacazette.
