Arsenal have been handed a huge blow in pursuit of midfield summer target.
Real Madrid are now ready to allow Arsenal target Asier Illarramendi to join Liverpool, according to reports.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old midfielder this summer.
And Marca says that new Bernabeu boss Rafa Benitez is not counting on the Spaniard after dropping him from the last two match squads.
The paper claims that the fact that new signing Mateo Kovacic has been preferred to him – despite only taking part in a couple of training sessions – is proof that Benitez wants to offload him.
The report says that Benitez’s intentions are now blatantly clear and Illarramendi should consider his next move carefully.
It’s claimed that Liverpool are very interested in signing him – and the paper urges him to sign for the Merseyside club if he wants to get playing time this season.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Illarramendi in the past few months.
He was signed by Real Madrid in a big-money move in the summer of 2013 as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso.
But the switch has not worked out for the ex-Real Sociedad man and it looks like he could now be heading for the exit.
