Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he wants Olympiacos to reach the last 16 of the Champions League at the expense of Arsenal. While most English-based fans will be cheering the Gunners on for coefficient based reasons, Mourinho isn’t among them.
The Portuguese coach said ‘’they (Arsenal) are in a group where a kid friend of mine is the manager of Olympiacos and it would be fantastic for the kid’s career to go through. So I have to be honest and say that I would like the kid and Olympiakos to go on. The ‘kid friend’ in question is the Portuguese manager Marco Silva’’
Arsenal has failed to pick up a win at Olympiacos in three previous attempts; they have to defy that record if they are to progress for the knock out stage.
All English team needs to perform well to boost their coefficient against the Italians who happen to be breathing fast on the neck of the English Coefficient. One slot would be taken away from the Premier league representative if they keep performing woefully in the UEFA Champions League and Chelsea may suffer the brunt of such consequences as the blues are way off the top four at the moment; it would be hard to see the Blue make the top 3 with their current predicament.
Mourinho and Wenger have not enjoyed a healthy relationship in the Premier League and this could be the major reasons behind Mourinho’s wish for Olympiacos to qualify ahead of the Gunners.
