French international Olivier Giroud has revealed the real reason why he completed a move to Chelsea in January.
The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Emirates pushed him further down the pecking order and he was desperate for game time ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
The Former Arsenal striker believes the time was right for a fresh challenge.
“I needed to leave Arsenal and now it’s a new chapter of my career,” he told BT Sport.
“The fans expect a lot from Chelsea strikers.
“I’m here to win trophies, to help the team reach our targets.”
Giroud started this evening as Chelsea hosted Hull in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
He won the trophy three times with Arsenal and is hoping to add to his collection.
“It’s the oldest competition in football ever,” he continued.
“I used to do well with my old team Arsenal, it’s a bit difficult to say.
“I’ve got a good past but I want to write the future now with Chelsea.”
