Serie A clubs Napoli and AC Milan are interested in signing Arsenal star Olivier Giroud, according to reports.
Giroud’s long term future at Arsenal has been thrown into doubt after he lost his place in the starting xi to Alexis Sanchez.
The French striker has had to settle for a place on the bench this season due to Sanchez’s impressive form. Although, one can’t really blame Giroud for his misfortunes as he was given an extended summer break and suffered an injury immediately he returned which gave Sanchez the opportunity to make the position his.
Giroud is now finding it difficult to get back into the starting xi and yesterday, reports claimed he is planning to hold talks with Arsene Wenger to get assurances over his future involvement in the first team.
According to Italian media Outlet Sportsmediaset via HITC Sports, Napoli and AC Milan have been alerted by the striker’s situation at the Emirates and are paying close attention with the hope of making a move in the future.
The report claims both clubs could make a move as early as January if they receive encouragement from North London.
I doubt if Wenger will sanction a January move because we are hoping to challenge for titles this season and it is very important not to alter our squad mid-season. However, a summer move is more likely as the striker will have just one year left in his current deal by then and if he is unable to get back into the first team, he will likely consider his future at the Emirates.
Giroud has been a key member of our squad since he joined in 2012, scoring 85 goals in 194 appearances as a Gunner.
