Arsene Wenger has warned fans that he may not sign a centre forward before the end of the transfer window, via the Metro.
The French tactician has been working on a deal to sign a striker this summer but has not been successful.
Arsenal triggered Jamie Vardy’s release clause in May but the England international snubbed a move to the Emirates in favor of a new deal at Leicester City. Wenger has since turned to other targets but has been frustrated by the prices being quoted.
The French man has now revealed he wants to focus on signing a centre back and would only sign a forward should a top quality striker be available.
‘I don’t count in numbers as squad too big,’ said Wenger.
‘I am looking at no other areas apart from centre back, it’s about quality.
‘If we find top quality, I will strengthen.
‘We have lost three centre backs because Laurent Koscielny is also not ready and out of the game but I believe we are equipped to do well.
‘Transfer wise, as soon as we do something we will inform you.’
Arsenal have only managed to secure one marquee signing in Granit Xhaka this summer but the club have also added Takuma Asano and Rob Holding to its squad.
Wenger is believed to be keeping tabs on Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Atletico Madrid’s Antoinne Greizmann and is expected to move for either of them should they become available.
