Signed, Sealed & Delivered! Arsenal Confirm Signing Of Defensive Star.

Arsenal’s need of a defender has not been a secret this season and it seems the club has eventually chosen to heed the agitations of gooners…

… and goonerettes, as the club confirms the signing of England Under-23 defender, Jemma Rose. For the Arsenal Ladies.

The 22-year old youngster arrives from Bristol City where she had been since 2010 through the ranks of their Academy, and will now move to London as the next step in her very promising career, adding to the strength of Pedro Losa’s team.

The Arsenal Ladies manager has expressed delight at the signing of Rose, showering praise on her abilities and how well she would fit into the Arsenal team.

“Jemma is a player who will fit in very well at Arsenal” Losa said.

“She is a good technical player, able to play out from the back. She is good in the air and athletic too.”

“She is a young player with lots of potential and I look forward to working with her”

The Plymouth-born defender has seen her stock rise since making her debut for the England Women Under-23’s in 2012, making 8 appearances till date. This was only a follow up to an impressive campaign in 2011 when she was named as the FA Young Women’s Player of the Year.

A former England Women Under-17 captain, she has the ability to be among the leaders in the back four, especially as she is a central defender of a credible 5ft 6 frame. Rose comes with much experience from Bristol Rovers having been involved for them in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

While this is good news for the Arsenal, it would also be worth announcing if the men’s team were to follow up with the acquisition of a central defender too as we have been short in that department too. A defender of Rose’s similar liking has been linked with a January move, in the person of Ipswich’s Tyrone Mings, Wenger himself having confirmed the interest in the 21-year old center back.

That said, Rejoice, Gooners (and Goonerettes)! We finally have signed a defender.
