Reports making the rounds are suggesting that Jackson Martinez has agreed terms with Arsenal ahead of a potential summer transfer, according to reports in Portugal.
Here are proof’s the rumours of Martinez to Arsenal could actually be true.
1. Porto always cash in on their big stars
The Portuguese giants have notoriously sold their stars to Europe’s biggest clubs for hefty transfer fees in recent times with Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez just three examples of their policy.
It’s a trend and we all know Martinez would follow suit
2. Papers in Portugal are reporting it.
Jornal di Noticias newspaper suggests the Colombian is heading for Arsenal, with a ‘principle agreement’ reached for him to sign. Although the paper adds that nothing has been sorted out with Porto.
3. Porto fans know he’s leaving
Even the club’s fans are resigned to losing the player, having given him a send off at their last game of the season.
4. He will be 29 in October and Wenger agrees that is a perfect age for a striker.
Wenger revealed this through Walcott’s situation.
“He is at the best age now. Being 26 to 32 as a striker is the best age and I would not like to miss that golden age.” Wenger said while speaking to Arsenal Player.
5. Wenger already hinted it
Wenger in February fuelled talks of a potential transfer after he showered praise on the Colombian while speaking to beIN Sports as part of an interview about Porto.
‘[He has] top physical strengths,’ Wenger said about Martinez. ‘Hugely efficient, he is the kind of player who can make room for himself in the box.
‘He could play in the Premier League because he has the body to make the difference. He uses it in a very intelligent way. Very short back lift and he’s a very good finisher.’
‘He’s on the list of many clubs, you know that. He will be the next big transfer who will give a big smile to Pinto da Costa [Porto’s owner].’
6. Martinez himself responded.
Just a few days after Wenger’s flattering comments on him, Martinez responded:
“In the summer I’ll leave Porto for a new team,”
“Players develop well in Portugal, and I thank the club for making me the player I am today.
“However, it’s time for a new adventure, to grow from a professional point of view.”
