Arsenal are showing interest in a pair of central defenders as they continue to search for reinforcements in the summer market.
Sky Sports is reporting that Arsene Wenger has his eye on Bayer Leverkusen’s Omer Toprak and Fenerbahce’s Simon Kjaer as possible options if he happens to miss out on Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi.
While West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans remains a contingency for any failed Mustafi pursuit, it is understood that Toprak and Kjaer feature on Wenger’s centre-back agenda.
With Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista sidelined for some time with injury, the Gunners boss is determined to lure a quality centre-half to the Emirates Stadium before the end of August.
German-born Turkey international Toprak, 27, is one of the Bundesliga’s most reliable central defenders while Denmark star Kjaer only moved to the Turkish SuperLig from French club Lille last summer having previously spent time in Italy with AS Roma and Palermo, in Germany with Wolfsburg and of course in his homeland with FC Midtjylland.
