Reports are suggesting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may have played his last competitive game for Arsenal.

The winger is in the final year of his contract but talks to renew his deal has so far been unsuccessful. Arsenal opened renewal talks with him last month but progress haven’t been made at all.

According to Sky Sports via The Daily Express, Arsenal are not even close to an agreement with Chamberlain but are confident that an agreement can be reached.

The England international is attracting interest from Liverpool and that has somewhat complicated negotiations for Arsenal, with the player’s entourage, taking full advantage of interest in the player.

The Reds have been monitoring the midfielder since January and have already had one bid rejected. They have apparently been boosted by his contractual situation and some reports are already claiming they are lining up a new offer.

However, Arsenal would not want to sell to a Premier League rival and may decide to hold on to him even if he fails to sign a new deal.

Should an agreement be difficult to reach then, Chamberlain will be free to enter talks with interested clubs in January and we will be powerless to stop him from leaving for nothing next summer. I hope it doesn’t come to this.
