Reports in France are claiming Thomas Lemar is desperate to join Arsenal this summer and a deal could happen next week.
Wenger has been working on a deal to sign Lemar but Monaco have been insistent on keeping the midfielder. However, all that could change soon after the player indicated his desire to move to the Emirates.
Arsenal have already had two bids rejected for the striker, with the latest a £40m bid, but we may now return with a third one after this recent development.
According to L’Equipe via the Daily Cannon, Lemar’s chances of securing his desired move to Arsenal have been boosted by Monaco’s interest in Rachid Ghezzal.
The French champions are closing in on the former Lyon winger and L’Equipe believes that his signing could open the door for Lemar to move to the Emirates.
Arsenal themselves are confident of completing a deal before the start of the transfer window and are still locked in talks with Monaco.
Sky Sports journalist Aidan Magee said on Thursday’s edition of Sky Sports Transfer Centre that both clubs are currently in talks over Lemar. He is quoted as saying:
“We are told discussions are ongoing over the future of this man – attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar.
“Arsenal have already had two bids of £30m and £40m rejected by Monaco. The Ligue 1 side are thought to be holding out for £50m.
Should Arsenal land Lemar, his arrival will take our summer spending closer to the £100m mark. Considering the amount players are being sold in the current transfer window, spending £50m on the Frenchman can be considered good business.
