Arsenal have rejected a loan bid from Inter Milan for Shkodran Mustafi, according to Sky Sports.
The Germany international hasn’t featured for Arsenal this season because he was given an extended break due to his involvement in the Confederations Cup but that hasn’t stopped him from attracting interest from Inter.
According to Sky Sports, Inter Milan made a bid to sign Mustafi on loan but were immediately turned down by Arsenal.
It is claimed they will return with a new proposal to sign the defender on a permanent deal before the transfer window closes.
According to the report, Arsenal want to get the money they paid to sign the defender from Valencia last summer , meaning Inter will have to pay at least £35m for the 25 year old.
Mustafi was an important cog in Arsenal’s defense last season but struggled with injuries and that limited him to just 26 Premier League appearances. He is still working his way back to full fitness and is expected to play a key role for us once again.
Why Arsenal are even considering entertaining a bid for the defender is beyond me and I don’t think it’s the wise thing to do. Our best players should be unsellable and Mustafi is one of them, putting a price tag on him will only encourage suitors and other clubs who are in the market for a similar player.
Moreover, come to think of it, which quality defender can we sign for £35m? A summer where Micheal Keane was sold for £30 and Virgil Van Dijk is being values at over £70m.
I think Wenger won’t be stupid enough to sell Mustafi for such a give away price, especially when he is important to our chances of winning the league title.
