Arsenal’s potential next manager Mikel Arteta was sent a brilliant message by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino that is sure to excite Gunners fans.
Arsene Wenger’s position is vacant after the Frenchman revealed he will be leaving the Emirates this summer after 22 years in charge of the Gunners.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of managers to this position but it seems Mikel Arteta is leading the race in signing the deal.
Arteta has spent the last two years under Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola – seeing the side become Premier League champions with a record-breaking season this campaign.
And – while there are still doubts over his experience as a manager – he once received a very positive message from Spurs boss Pochettino.
Sky Sports transfer guru Guillem Balague said in his YouTube video today how the Argentinian urged Arteta to go for the manager’s job before joining City.
“The step is brave for a club like Arsenal to hand over such an institution with so many big players to somebody like Arteta.
“But the likes of Pochettino told him before he went to City: ‘Why go as an assistant?’
“That was the question.
“Arteta said ‘I’ve got to prepare myself’ and Pochettino said ‘Look what I’ve done – going straight into number one’.
“‘Because you [Arteta] have the personality and ability to be number one’.”
That message was made even before the 36-year-old worked under Guardiola, meaning in the two years since his stature will surely have risen further.
