Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has revealed the reason he snubbed a move to Arsenal, according to a report on the Daily Express.
The striker was highly courted by Arsenal in the summer of 2013 in what was one of the biggest transfer saga that summer but the Uruguyan ended up staying at Anfield.
Suarez has now revealed the reason he ended up staying at Anfield despite trying to force a move out of the club.
The former Liverpool man has now revealed that a conversation with Steven Gerrard helped him decide against moving to the Emirates.
“Arsenal’s interest in me was very public, I don’t think it is any secret,” he said.
“I had a private conversation with Stevie after training, and he told me to give Liverpool another season, and wait for Barcelona.
“Looking back now it is one of the most important conversations of my life, but that is Stevie, he was a captain who was always ready to give his players advice.”
The striker later earned a move to Barcelona a year later for a fee of about £75m. Suarez will now face Arsenal on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions league round of 16 first leg.
