First, we are not sure why Arsenal has been linked with a move for a striker after letting go of three already this window while having a stock that could take the challenges of the remainder of the season. And 23-year old Mattia Destro is not exactly the best striker in the world at the moment, so it’s kind of cloudy on that front.
Then again, Tottenham are threatened and are reportedly now swooping for him, looking to beat Arsenal to him according to the Metro. Roma are open to let go of him this window as they weigh up moves for other attacking options.
Spurs have had to rely on 21-year old Harry Kane as their main striker this season and may put in some intense effort to sign Destro, to avert what had happened last deadline day when the Gunners beat them for Danny Welbeck.
With the England International striker, Arsenal boasts of a collection of strikers from around the world, mostly those of English, Chilean, French, German and Costa Rican descent. Wenger has not exactly had much flare for signing Italians over the years, having done well to dodge the bullet that was Mario Balotelli during the last summer window. The duo of Alessio Cerci and Ciro Immobile had been linked with potential switches from Torino but seeing Wenger fancied neither of them, it remains to be seen if he would be as keen on Mattia.
Defensive additions have been made this window and for the most part, that is what Arsenal fans wanted. It wouldn’t make much of an impression to sign a striker at this time as those in the team at the moment are even in a fierce competition for the few available places.
Perhaps there will be a search for strikers in the summer and maybe there will be bigger targets by that time. Destro was tagged with a great future coming through as a youngster but he has not had much chances at the Olimpico this season under Rudi Garcia. The Gialorossi are second on the Serie A log but don’t look like they will charge a serious challenge on Juventus.
Should we let the Spurs have him? we seem to have taken a lot from them in recent times and will still do in the summer when we swoop for Saints’ Morgan.
