Everton are now ready to step up their pursuit of Olivier Giroud, according to reports.
The Toffees on Saturday agreed a £75m fee with Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku and they have long identified Giroud as his replacement.
With the Belgian now on the verge of moving to Old Trafford, Ronald Koeman is set to step up his interest in our French man.
Giroud has no short of offers this summer, as he’s being tipped to leave the Emirates due to the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette and he features prominently on Koeman’s shortlist.
According to Liverpool Echo, Koeman believes Giroud would be the perfect player to line up alongside Wayne Rooney – who is also on the verge of returning to Goodison park.
A fee of about £20m is being mooted and that wouldn’t be a problem for the Merseysiders who made more than three times of that from the sale of Lukaku.
Wenger would ideally love to keep Giroud as back up to Lacazette as he can provide a different option for us but the striker wants to play regularly next season with no short of three French Ligue 1 clubs hot on his heels with offers, giving Wenger headache to convince the striker that his future is at the Emirates.
Everton are among three other Premier League clubs who have shown serious interest in signing Giroud this summer.
Giroud still has three years left on his contract and it is Arsenal who will call all the shots here. Should he leave the Emirates this summer, it will be because Wenger wants to sell him and not necessarily because he wants out.
