Arsene Wenger had an expectedly short team news ahead of the City game. Nobody is missing from the last game, but Alexis Sanchez might return, The Chilean resumed training earlier this week with Wenger saying “He may be a bit short for City, Certainly, but with Alexis you never know”. There’s an outside chance he could feature, even if from the bench.
Asides him, the other injuries remain the same. Captain Arteta might return to full training before the year runs out, Jack Wilshere is still a month away, and might not feature till well into February. Tomas Rosicky has started running and should be back in January. Danny Welbeck would be a bit longer after a little setback, he will return in Februray. Coquelin and Santi Cazorla would be looking to return in March.
We expect the starting line-up to be the same as the last three games, the only contentions would be which center back pairing we would see, and which wing pairing we would see.
Mertesacker, Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista would be vying for the two Center back positions depending on how Wenger decides he wants to counter City’s attacking threat. And the two positions on the flanks would be picked from Walcott, Chamberlain and now Joel Campbell. Surprisingly it seems Campbell is the first name on the list for wingers given his style of play and his recent form.
Predicted Starting Lineup:
Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal
Flamini, Aaron Ramsey
Joel Campbell, Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott
Ospina, Debuchy, Gibbs, Chambers, Chamberlain, Sanchez
