The saying is that you get what you pay for but with Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal’s fans are getting what they’ve long longed for and not seen since the days of the “two Invincibles” who were on hand to witness his demolition of Stoke City.
But not just in one game has Alexis been showing his quality for Arsenal, justifying his £32m evaluation by Barcelona; he’s been practically behind almost everything that has shown bright and brilliant for the Gunners this season. Fan banter will always see him and his contributions to the team placed side by side with the stars of rival teams, Hazard, Costa, Di Maria, Rooney, Aguero, Silva, and by the very audacious ones, Charlie Austin and Harry Kane.
While Alexis lies fourth behind Costa, Aguero and Austin on the Premier League top scorer’s charts and 6 assists behind the top man on the provision leaderboard Cesc Fabregas, the broader stats book still proves that the 26-year old Chilean workhorse is, at the moment, the best player in the Premier League.
He’s the Biggest Goal Threat
No player has been involved in more Premier League goals than Alexis Sanchez, having scored 12 times and provided 7 assists. City’s Sergio Aguero has scored two more League goals – obviously, he’s always a center-forward – but has not been as helpful to his teammates in scoring theirs, with only three assists.
He’s Influenced More Goals Though this may relate more to the Arsenal team’s reliance on him than a general effect on the Premier League, the magnitude of his direct contribution to 51.4% of our goals shows we have a man we can readily rely on to turn us up at any given time.
He’s Worth at least £80m
£32m is proving an absolute steal for Alexis and it’s not just jibby-jabber. The much raved about Eden Hazard has scored 8 times in the League this season, three being penalties, and Man United’s fancy Argentine has not scored more than three times since his arrival from the Bernabeu. Now, Hazard cost Chelsea £32m three years ago and Di Maria’s fee ran into an excess of £60m. It’s a ridiculous thing to ponder at the moment but we have an idea how much Wenger will be hoping to make from Alexis when City come to pinch, or if Barcelona realize their ‘mistake’.
He’s the Ultimate Team Player
With 7 assists, he has at least three more than any of the League’s top 20 strikers!
