Stoke City vs Arsenal: Starting Lineup – Boss Uses Very Strong 4-4-2 Formation

Mark Hughes is almost certain to be without Xherdan Shaqiri for the home fixture against Arsenal, with the wide man nursing a hamstring problem.

After recording a 3-1 victory over Norwich, Hughes could keep faith in the same attacking midfield trio of Marko Arnautovic, Bojan and Jonathan Walters.

Peter Crouch, Peter Odemwingie and Mame Biram Diouf provide alternatives for the Stoke boss. Ibrahim Afellay started alongside Glenn Whelan in the double-pivot in midweek, but Hughes could perhaps replace the Dutchman with a more natural central midfield player such as Marco van Ginkel or Charlie Adam against Arsenal.

Providing there were no injury niggles picked up against the Canaries, the back four of Glen Johnson, Philipp Wollscheid, Ryan Shawcross and Erik Pieters is set to remain unchanged. Phil Bardsley and Stephen Ireland could return to the squad, though Geoff Cameron is expected miss out again due to an ankle injury.

Marc Muniesa and Shay Given remain out.

Having said this, here is how Hughes is expected to lineup his side against Arsenal.
