Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno is being regarded as a longtime target for Arsenal, but they are nowhere closer to acquiring his services as the Bundesliga side remain reluctant to let him go.

Despite recurring failures in their bid to lure him to the Emirates Stadium, the North London club are reportedly set to reignite their interest in the brilliant goalie.

With Sven Mislintant’s experience in the transfer market, Arsenal fans are hopeful that the Germany international would surely switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans might need to reduce their hopes of recording success in the club’s chase after Leno’s signature as Napoli seem ready to overtake them in the race to sign the goalkeeper.

According to Napoli’s representative, Parisi, in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss, the Serie A side haven’t given up on their race to sign Leno and they are doing everything to beat Arsenal to his signature.

“The negotiation is in progress and it is useless to deny that he is one of Napoli’s primary objectives,” Parisi confirmed.

He further revealed that the Naples are not interested in triggering his €28m release clause. Instead, they are presently in contract talks with Leverkusen over the possibility of reaching an agreement before the start of the summer World Cup where the goalkeeper is expected to feature for Germany.

“The clause exists in his contract and it is equal to €28m, but if there is a possibility of a negotiated deal we will work it out,” he said

Parisi believes it will be difficult to lure the goalkeeper out of Leverkusen considering how important he has been for the club throughout the just concluded season.

“I am optimistic by nature and the Napoli hierarchy holds Leno in high regard. Just like everyone else, we have to work hard on it,” he concluded.
