Arsenal Winger Alexis Sanchez have questioned the team’s mentality to win trophies after back to back loss against Manchester United and Swansea, via a report on Indian Express.
Speaking after the club’s 2-1 loss to Swansea on Wednesday night, Sanchez said the Gunners’ players sometimes don’t have the “hunger to believe we can be champions.”
The Gunners had been heavily tipped to win the league over the course of the season which has seen many big teams fail to live up to expectation. It was believed that the Gunners will take advantage of other traditional big team failings but Sanchez has revealed that the team’s mentality is limiting their performance on the pitch.
When speaking to Direct TV Sport, Sanchez said: “If we go out on to the pitch with hunger to become champions, to win the Premier League or the Champions League we can achieve it, to win big things.”
“There are great players. I train with them daily and they have got the mentality and the desire to win but we lack hunger, the mentality that we are winning 1-0 when we go out on to the pitch. Sometimes we lack this hunger to believe that we can be champions – to go out on to the pitch feeling that we are winning 1-0. The other team doesn’t always win because it is superior. It is rather little details.”
The forward who has struggled to replicate his early season form since returning from injury is hoping to get back to top form in order to help return the club’s title race back on track.
