Irish defender Daniel Ballard has signed his first professional contract with Arsenal, according to report on club’s official website.
The youngster arrived Arsenal in the summer of 2016 on scholarship after coming through the Hale End academy. He was the 11th player to be on the scholarship scheme at that time.
The story of Ballard is one that could be described as destiny – he was initially released from the youth ranks of Arsenal but the star never gave up on his dream until Andries Jonker at Arsenal called him up to play against Bayern Munich.
He almost suffered a career threatening injury after when he broke his ankle during a trial with Southampton but he returned to Arsenal for his rehab and it went well.’
The youngster featured for the B-team of Arsenal and the U18s last season, and he’s fondly remembered for Captaining the Gunners youngsters that reached the FA Cup youth final.
The major strength of Ballard is said to be his tough-tackles but he admitted that he is working on his acceleration so as to be successful with his recovery challenges and timed-tackles.
