“The Interceptor” Interesting Stats Shows Arsenal Star Tops Charts For Interceptions & Tackles.

Arsene Wenger may have yet another reason not to undertake any search for a defensive midfielder in the summer with new information proving that Francis Coquelin has been the League’s best in his role since making his return to the Arsenal team in December.

According to Squawka, the 24-year old now tops the charts for both Interceptions and tackles made in the Premier League this year, and that is more than those made by the high esteemed company of Nemanja Matic, Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and the rest.

‘No player in Europe’s top 5 leagues has made more interceptions in 2015 than Francis Coquelin (26).’

‘Francis Coquelin has won the most tackles (20) in the Premier League in 2015.’

Those are quite brilliant statistics to chew over especially considering the class and caliber of players in his role that play in Europe’s top 5 Leagues – William Carvalho, Sven Bender, Samir Khedira, Sergio Busquets – and while it may still be pre-mature to say he has arrived into the ranks of these players, the rate at which he has settled into the team, becoming a vital player, can only be a sign of better things to come.

The magnitude of Coquelin’s turnaround has astounded most observers as it looked very certain that he would be on his way out of Arsenal for good once his deal expires at the end of the season. However, a new four-year deal and a new status as being one of the immovable players on Wenger’s team sheet – he is the only one to have played in every Arsenal match in 2015 – has seen him recognized as one of the key blocks for the future.

It will be interesting to see how he further develops other aspects of his game, especially on the technical front. He has shown good distribution of the ball for short-distance ground balls and gooners will like to see him attempt those well-timed occasional forward runs that shows adventure and confidence.

The consensus at present is that Wenger would still have to push for a competition for him in the coming summer but with three months still to go in the current campaign, Coquelin can even better his stats to make that need totally disappear.
