That challenge by David Luiz was scandalous. He can have no complaints about his red.

Luiz had earlier been booked after his attempt to score from an overhead kick hit Laurent Koscielny in the hand.

In my view, neither challenge warranted a red as both were honest attempts to play the ball. But there seems to be no clarity or consistency whatsoever from referees on this issue.

A leg-breaker. It’s a red card plus

Graeme Souness: ‘That’s a leg-breaker… a red card plus. I’m also struggling to understand why his first yellow card would be different to Sadio Mane’s (at Manchester City). I think that’s a red card too.’

Thierry Henry: ‘You can see Luiz is upset with Sanchez. He forgets to play football and he takes his anger out on Kolasinac and gets sent off.’
