Ray Parlour has talked up the importance of Arsenal signing some “leaders” in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have come in for yet more criticism after their poor performance in the 3-0 League Cup final defeat by Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal have struggled to find consistent form all season in the Premier League and they currently find themselves in sixth place in the table and way off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification.
The north London side were active in the summer transfer window as they secured the signings of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, Parlour has been quick to level a familiar criticism at the north London side following their failure to improve their form this season.
Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports, Parlour said: “What Arsenal lack are leaders. Once you cross that white line, you’ve got to sort it out yourself.
“They’ve had big players in the side in the past with the likes of Tony Adams, Martin Keown and Patrick Vieira.
“We had these figureheads who, when you weren’t doing your job, you knew about it. I don’t see that anymore.”
Arsenal will be aiming to get back to winning ways on Thursday afternoon when they take on Manchester City at The Emirates on Thursday night.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
Arsenal have had to settle for a place in the Europa League this season after they finished fifth last term.
