In what may seem as a summer transfer window where Manchester United defied beliefs to snatch Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, Jose Mourinho is set to do one over another of the London clubs for a much sought-after winger.
English news source Daily star runs a story that Man United have turned their attention to Arsenal No. 1 target Thomas Lemar. The France international has been on Arsenal’s radar all summer, with the Gunners refusing to match Monaco’s valuation believed to be in the region of £54.5m. Arsenal are insisting to pay around £40m which is way below the French club’s asking fee.
Meanwhile the Red Devils are on the cusp of gazumping the deal, Daily Star reports. Further report suggests that they are prepared to pay handsomely for the 23-year-old and could also sell one of their star to fund the transfer.
United have seen a number of their winger targets all fail to make a switch this summer. Atletico Madrid transfer ban meant Antoine Griezmann would be stuck with them until next summer. Also, Ivan Perisic antics in making sure he signed for United were futile, as Inter Milan remained obstinate over the decision to sell him even for an irresistible offer.
However, Jose Mourinho could yet land a versatile attacker in Lemar as he has the incentive of A UEFA Champions League football to offer unlike Arsenal who failed to qualify for the first time in 20 years.
On the flip side, Monaco seem to be playing hardball after selling the likes of Mendy (£52m), Tiemoué Bakayoko (£39.6m) and Bernardo Silva who were an integral part of the title winning team. Lemar was instrumental for them with 11 goals and 14 assists from the wing so it remains to be seen if he would join the exodus of top talents from the Les Monégasques.
