Arsenal apparently had a bid rejected for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic in January, according to reports.
The Gunners were heavily linked with a move to sign the midfielder last winter. It was understood that the club tabled a concrete offer for the midfielder and Sports Witness via the Daily Cannon says the bid was rejected.
According to the report, the Gunner tabled a bid of €15m which was €10m less than Inter Milan’s valuation and the Italian club turned down the bid claiming it was too small.
Inter Milan weren’t prepared to lose the midfielder mid season but would have been willing to discuss with interested clubs had their €25m valuation been met. However, Wenger and the club felt it was too much for a player that Inter signed for €8m.
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Bayern Munich as well as Chelsea have now joined the race to sign the midfielder. Wenger is reportedly in need of midfield reinforcement in the summer but it is unlikely he will return for Brozovic.
Wenger had been monitoring Brozovic since January 2015 and tried to sign him before the Croatian international opted for a move to the San Siro on loan.
In January, after being turned down by Inter Milan, Arsenal completed the signing of Mohamed Elneny from Basel for a fee of about £5m.
