Arsenal can decide against signing Nigeria U17 stars Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze should they be unimpressed with the players when they turn 18.

The players would be due for a professional contract when they turn 18 and the Gunners could decide not to offer them a professional contract should they be unimpressed with the players. The Gunners had been working on a deal for both players in recent months and it seems the Nigeria duo would now complete the necessary paper work for their transfer to Arsenal.

Despite the fact that the players are close to joining Arsenal, a source close to Africanfootball has now revealed that Arsenal made little investments in the players and could walk away should they decide to.

“Arsenal have only made an initial investment of about 10% on both players and have insisted they will only finalize a contract with them when they are 18 and have received their international papers,” a source close to the players told AfricanFootball.com

“It’s a huge risk the players’ academy in Nigeria is now taking because should it all go wrong, Arsenal have nothing to lose if they walked away.”

The players impressed scouts when they turned out for Nigeria in the U17 World cup held in Chile last year and Arsenal have beaten the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City to their signature.

Nwakali was the most valuable player in the U17 championship last year and it looks like we have got a player with enormous potential into our ever growing academy.
