Arsenal have been urged to follow Chelsea footsteps and reduce the size of its squad this summer.
Wenger is currently finding it difficult to ship out some of the fringe players because of their reluctance to accept a pay cut to secure a move away.
Charlie Nicholas has now urged the club to do whatever is needed to sell those fringe players taking up precious spaces in the squad. The ex Gunner told Sky Sports that Arsenal must be ruthless like Chelsea who have trimmed their squad considerably this summer.
“There’s so much dead wood to get rid of around the club,” Nicholas said, reports the Daily Cannon.
“That’s what Antonio Conte has done at Chelsea, but Arsenal’s numbers are terrifying in terms of the players sat around who aren’t doing anything.”
The likes of Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs and Lucas Perez are expected to leave the club this summer but Arsenal have been unable to agree a fee with potential buyers.
Chelsea, on the other hand have been able to sell their dead woods for huge prices. Very few clubs are able to negotiate grossly like the Blues but it wouldn’t be a bad idea if we are like them in that aspect. It will also go a long way in boosting our transfer kitty to chase our top targets.
