It seems like forever that Arsenal have been fending off deals and approaches for Chilean star Alexis Sanchez, but it now seems likely that they will have to deal with the biggest approach of all, as Real Madrid are lining up the pieces to bring Sanchez to the Bernabeu.
Madrid have so far kept their distance from Sanchez, but, now, after seeing him stay at the Emirates and the transfer window closed, despite an apparent last gasp move from Manchester City to land him, they are now lining up a sequence of events that will culminate in them making a huge bid for Sanchez – and will expect it to be successful.
Central to this is the sale of French centre forward Karim Benzema – whom is becoming ever more considered surplus to requirements, such is the depth of the Madrid attacking force, and is not getting any younger or faster. Marco Asensio is making rapid strides and waves in becoming the out and out striker at Madrid, with youngster Borja Mayoral also pushing for a chance and an opportunity to make an impact as a relative unknown, as Asensio has done and Alvaro Morata before him.
But Madrid feel they can still get in the region of £50 million for Benzema, and this cash would go straight into the pot for Sanchez, with the Spanish giants feeling Arsenal would be far more open to a straight cash purchase for Sanchez than an swap or player plus cash deal involving Benzema – not at all unreasonable considering Arsenal still have Olivier Giroud as well as Alexandre Lacazette in their ranks.
Sanchez has recovered from his summer injury issues and is again playing active roles for Arsenal in their Premier League campaign – but both the player and club have got off to rather unsettled starts, and the feeling is that whilst Sanchez remains at the Emirates in body, he is not their in mind or heart, and his displays on the pitch have so far reflected that.
Should news arrive that Madrid are ready to table a firm bid for Sanchez, we feel Arsenal, if they are going to lose their talisman, would much rather see him go to Spain, than up the road to Manchester to wear the red of United or blue of City and see him work against the Gunners in their own domestic challenges.
