Undoubtedly, one area Arsenal can claim abundance of talent is in the Attacking Midfield position.
Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky are a few names the Gunners can rely upon to hold sway in such roles.
Any of the aforementioned players can function as an ideal number 10 – playing behind the strikers. But for purposes of accommodating and ensuring playing time is evenly shared, some have been deployed to the flanks and on rare occasions, a more holding central midfield role.
One can therefore be tempted to conclude that a move for another attacking midfielder this summer could be mere luxury, especially with many believing that the defensive midfield zone needs more urgent attention and reinforcement if the Gunners were to seriously challenge for the League title next season.
However, reports emanating from the ever busy transfer rumour mill suggest Arsenal could be in the mix to land Bayern Munich’s creative midfielder Mario Gotze, after news of a rift between his agent Volker Struth and the Bundesliga Champions broke this week.
Struth is said to be unhappy with Bayern’s treatment of the player.
“Of course I would have liked if Mario had felt more support in one or two situations,” Struth said per Sky Sports.
“I am fully convinced that when Mario feels this support, it is easier for him to show his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world.”
Struth’s comments have become a catalyst for transfer speculations with the Daily Star suggesting Arsenal could join Manchester United in pursuit of the German International.
Mario Gotze – Scorer of Germany’s World Cup winning goal last summer, was strongly linked with a move to Arsenal before joining Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2013 for £26m.
Although, the 23-year-old attacker has failed to establish himself as a super star with the Bundesliga champions; however, it is unlikely that the Bavarians would let the £49.6m rated star leave this summer.
