Having got 79 minutes under his belt against Burney in the FA Cup on Saturday, Alexis Sanchez should come back into Arsenal’s league starting XI for the home clash against Southampton.
Mesut Ozil looks another sure starter in the three attacking midfield positions in Arsene Wenger’s standard 4-2-3-1 formation, with Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott probably battling for the final spot on the right.
An unused substitute against Burnley, Campbell may perhaps get the nod, with Olivier Giroud likely to start as the central striker once again having been sacrificed early in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out.
Francis Coquelin was another to get valuable pitch time in the FA Cup, playing 71 minutes, and could come in alongside Aaron Ramsey at the base of midfield. Mathieu Flamini and Mohamed Elneny provide Wenger with alternative options in this position.
Per Mertesacker returns from his one-match ban and is expected to be joined by Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal in a back four. Gabriel, Kieran Gibbs and Calum Chambers will likely provide back-up from the bench.
Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck are all out.
