According to the Metro, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is on the verge of signing for Arsenal after agreeing to personal terms with the North London club.
The Armenian international got emotional while saying his goodbye to his Manchester United tea-mates on the training ground on Friday.
Mkhitaryan, 28, is expected to complete a move to Arsenal in exchange for Alexis Sanchez in the coming days, with the Armenian dropping down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season.
His agent Mino Raiola has been working on finalising the deal with Arsenal for Mkhitaryan but it appears the midfielder would prefer to remain at United.
The Daily Mail suggests he shed a tear at Carrington on Friday afternoon following his final training session with the Red Devils.
‘It was very tearful,’ said one United source told The Daily Mail. ‘Henrikh has been a very popular figure here at United.’
Despite understanding that his chances will be improved in north London, Mkhitaryan feels the deal has been ‘forced’ upon him this January.
‘We know he isn’t too happy at the way this deal has been forced upon him,’ the source adds. ‘He realises he has more chance of playing at Arsenal, but he would have preferred to leave on his own terms.’
It’s understood United will be paying around £35million for Sanchez, with the Chilean set to earn £350,000-a-week in wages plus an extra £100,000-a-week to cover his signing-on fee.
