Arsene Wenger has stressed the importance of selling the unwanted players in the squad before the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal are struggling to get rids of those players no longer in Wenger’s plans and with the transfer window closing in three weeks, there is a probability of being stuck with some of them.
And Wenger says avoiding being stuck with unwanted players is important and will help improve the ‘mental climate’ of the club.
“It’s difficult to speak about that,” Wenger said. “If the players don’t get an opportunity to go and they stay here and you know you wanted them to go it creates a difficult mental climate.
“We are open, there’s not any specific [players] I want out because they all have great attitude.
“But in some areas when you have three or four players in the same position it’s better that they have a chance to play somewhere else.”
Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Lucas Perez and Calum Chambers are all expected to leave the club this summer but none of their suitors have been able to strike a deal with Arsenal.
Some of the players are unwilling to take a pay-cut to secure a move away, further complicating their transfer and this could lead to them remaining at the club.
Wenger is absolutely right on this, there is no need keeping a player who isn’t wanted because he will only go about unhappy and sulking around, which could just have a negative impact in the team’s morale.
