Arsenal and Liverpool are both interested in signing Olympique de Marseille youngster Maxime Lopez, according to reports.
Lopez is currently winning plaudits in France for his performances, despite making his debut at the beginning of this campaign.
The midfielder made his first appearance in Marseille’s 2-1 defeat to Guingamp in August and has since then made four appearances for the French club, impressing in all of his outings.
Apparently, Arsenal scouts were present in Marseille’s game last weekend to watch the 18 year old.
Lopez is highly rated in Marseille and is being tipped to become a big player for the club just like Sami Nasri who was also a product of their academy.
According to the Sun via The Express, Arsenal are considering making a move for the midfielder in the future.
However, we are not alone in the race to sign the youngster as Liverpool are also watching him and the Merseyside club are prepared to rival us for his signature.
Arsenal have a track record of signing players from the French League and we have been very successful with the players that have joined us from the country. The likes of Laurent Koscielny and Francis Coquelin are prime examples. Hopefully, that will give us an edge over Liverpool in the race to sign Lopez.
