Arsene Wenger has revealed he is looking to sign more players before the transfer window ends next month.
Arsenal have only made two signings this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac the club’s only arrivals and Wenger has given Gooners a reason to be excited by revealing he isn’t done in the transfer window just yet.
He has been working on a deal for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar but with the French club reluctant to sell, it looked like there will be no more arrival at the Emirates.
Wenger has now revealed that he is ‘on alert’ to take advantage of the transfer window if any opportunity arises. Speaking to the club’s official website, the boss revealed he is still ready to spend this summer but also warned against the state of the transfer window.
“What’s next is to remain active. Not a lot [has] happened, he said as quoted by the Standard.
“I believe there are actually two ways to improve the team. First of all to improve the quality of what we do in training to improve the squad and improve the players we have, and secondly to bring more top-level players in.
“The difficulty is to bring top-level players in because you pay a huge amount of money for very normal players at the moment. As well, all the big clubs are chasing the same players and that provokes huge inflation. Maybe this will be the first time we [football clubs] pay over £200m, maybe over £300m with Neymar and around £200m with [Arsenal and Real Madrid target Kylian] Mbappe.”
“So there is a huge inflation. But we are active, we are working hard and I think we have done well with Kolasinac, we have done well with Lacazette and we are continuing to work.”
Wenger revealed at the end of last season that he would sign about three players this summer and with just two signings made already, he is yet to be done in the market.
Reports are claiming he is interested in signing Nice’s Jean-Michel Seri and one of Thomas Lemar or Riyad Mahrez.
