Arsene Wenger has ruled out signing Dimitri Payet this month.
Arsenal have been linked with Payet who has told West Ham that he doesn’t want to play for them anymore. It was claimed the Gunners had contacted the player’s representatives over the possibility of moving to the Emirates this month but Wenger has dismissed those claims, saying he doesn’t need the French man.
Although the boss admitted he is a big fan of the player, the arrival of Danny Welbeck means there is no need for a new signing.
“I expect it to be a very quiet period because we have Welbeck coming back now. We are very strong, we have many players [in the squad] who can come in,” he said ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Burnley.
“Overall I don’t expect to do anything special.
“I don’t need Payet because we have so many creative players. I rate Payet, of course, but it’s not an area where we’re looking for something.
“We have many players who can play in this position. You’re interested in the quality of the player, but there has to be a need as well.”
Well that’s it. This should put an end to all reports linking us with Payet.
Personally speaking, I’d have loved us to sign the French man because he is one of the best in his position and would improve our squad a lot, in turn putting us in a stronger position to win the title but that will not happen because Wenger doesn’t see any need to sign the playmaker.
Gooners, do you think passing up the opportunity to sign Payet is a bad idea? If you were to be in Wenger’s shoes, what will your decision be?
