Arsene Wenger has hailed Watford new signing M’Baye Niang ahead of our game against the Hornets.
Arsenal host Watford in Matchday 16 of the 2016/2017 season and Niang who was recently linked with a move to the Emirates is set to make his debut for Walter Mazzarri’s men.
Wenger has now revealed the winger is a player he knows very well and knows how dangerous he can be against us.
Arsenal were heavily linked with the French man prior to his move to Watford but Mazzarri was able to use his Italian connection to lure him to the Vicarage Road.
“I know him well because he played in Caen,” Wenger said. “We had him here. He is a very talented striker, individually can create chances.
“He’s very strong as well, physically and very quick. I think he will be a major asset for them.
“He’s on loan from Milan and we have to keep him quiet because he can do something special.”
As the Daily Cannon pointed out Wenger’s interest in the player dates back to 2012 when he handed him a trial at the Emirates but Caen rejected Arsenal’s bid because it was £2m less than their valuation.
It isn’t clear why Arsenal couldn’t reach an agreement with the French club, considering AC Milan who eventually signed him paid less than what we offered but obviously the boss didn’t stop keeping track of his progress.
Tuesday will be another opportunity for the boss to watch the winger first-hand and as a Gooner i’ll be hoping he fails to impress on the night.
