Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is largely known for his eye for young and gifted players, turning them into global super stars.
The French boss has however, revealed one player which slipped out of his hands and has totally amazed him with how far he has come in such a short time.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed he watched Ngolo Kante long before the midifielder moved to England.
The midfielder who joined Leicester City from French club Caen has been impressive since moving to the Premier League and Wenger has revealed that his club monitored the midfielder prior to his move to England.
Speaking before his side’s game against the Foxes, Wenger talked up the quality of the midfielder.
“Kante is a huge force in that team,” Wenger said. “I know him well.
“If you look at his career you will be amazed. He played for Suresnes in Paris at the age of nine or 10, went to Boulogne and they didn’t want to sign him as a pro. He went to Caen and then finally came to England.
“But everywhere he went he always adapted to the level.
“One of my best friends has known Kante since he was 10 years old and he has spoken to me about him. We went to watch him and we saw he had quality but I didn’t know that he would come to England so quickly.”
Wenger had the opportunity to watch the midfielder in action again when both sides met at the Emirates on Sunday, despite the midfielder’s superb performance, the French tactician had the last laugh over his compatriot as the Gunners ran out 2-1 winners with a Danny Welbeck late header.
