Arsene Wenger has refused to confirm or deny interest in Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, although reports have confirmed a deal is close for the striker to move to the Emirates in the coming days.
“I can neither confirm or deny interest [in him],” Wenger told Canal+ Sport when asked about a bid for Lacazette. “If I say that I like the player it starts speculation.”
Wenger who is well known for keeping his transfer dealings top secret, has again refused to confirm or deny the widespread rumours of a deal for the Ligue 1 striker.
However, reports from reliable sources are claiming that a deal to bring the free-scoring striker to the Emirates is almost done with both parties in advanced talks for the player.
Lacazette was even omitted from Lyon’s team photo for the new season and it is claimed the 25-year-old goal hitman would sign for Arsenal ahead of the Gunners pre-season trip later this month.
The report also added that Liverpool showed strong interest in the player, but the star has chosen a move to London due to assurance of Champions League football.
