Arsene Wenger has lauded Theo Walcott as a ‘more resilient’ player this season.
Walcott’s fine form has taken many by surprise at it was just this summer that the winger’s future at the Emirates was in doubt after he had a poor campaign last year.
And when Wenger was asked whether Walcott had become a little more resilient this year, he replied:
“I would cut the ‘little bit’ off in your sentence and just say he’s much more resilient, and not a little bit,” as reported by Arsenal’s official official website.
“He could have had a hat-trick, or even four, because he had another chance from [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain. But he scored two goals. I think he’s got seven now, that’s quite encouraging.”
As much as I am elated, I must say I am surprised by the winger’s form. He looks the opposite of the kind of player he was last season and he is a testament that things change quickly in football.
The winger scored five league goals in 28 appearances last season and has already matched that tally in eight games this term, making him our highest goal scorer this season. Should he continue to impress, he will play a key role in our title race this year and that’s exactly what we expect from a player who has spent more than a decade at our club.
