Wenger Handed £50M Transfer Kitty But Warned He Must Deliver.

With the season gradually drawing to a close in an all too familiar fashion, most Arsenal fans are looking ahead already to the summer and so is the Arsenal board who have apparently set aside £50m for the summer transfer business.

According to the Express, Wenger will receive that much to add the final strong pieces to a team that can make a real push for honours next season and it will be made clear to him that there cannot be more excuses should he fail to deliver at the end of the season.

This season has seen the largest transfer splash in Arsenal’s history with nearly £100m spent on the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mattieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers, Danny Welbeck and January singing, Gabriel. But third place in the League and another Champions League campaign looking all but dashed at the Round-of-16 stage leaves many gooners with the feeling of disappointment. Goalkeeping and defensive reinforcements are still believed to be required to compliment the attacking galaxy currently available to Wenger to achieve the balance of a top level team.

Although, it may not be that sort of splash in the coming window as Wenger could spend all of those funds on one or two specialty players rather than make a bunch of average purchases. Southampton’s midfield anchorman, Morgan Schneiderlin, is believed to be top of Wenger’s wishlist as a defensive midfielder remains in considerable need at Arsenal.

Francis Coquelin has, indeed, been more than a breath of fresh air with his no nonsense approach, doing more than fair in protecting the back four. However, he is a bit short of the complete kind of midfielder with the good dynamics of technical and physical abilities to lead a team like Arsenal through League titles and Champions League games. He could still have a great Arsenal future but while he gets better, someone more in the Patrick Vieira mould would be of more instantaneous good to the Gunners.

Wenger could also be looking at getting another goalkeeper as neither Szczesny nor Ospina has managed to clearly sell to the gooners. A striker may also be looked out for though Olivier Giroud has been more than capable so far this season.

How would you suggest Wenger spend his £50m transfer kitty in the summer?
