Wenger has admitted that he is open to making new signings in January after seeing his squad decimated by injuries this season
Reports indicate that Arsenal are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka. The Gunners have been sending scouts to watch the player perform for Monchengladbach with the hope of signing the player in the January transfer window.
Arsenal Club captain, Mikel Arteta and Czech Republic super star Tomas Rosicky likely to leave at the end of the season, while Francis Coquelin and Jack Wilshere are both out injured, Wenger need replacement in the central midfield position and Xhaka has been identified as a potential player to fill the void for Arsenal.
The Switzerland international has a release clause of £21 Million on his current contract that would be activated in 2017. Xhaka has been impressive for Monchengladbach since he joined the team from Basel in 2012 and has scored three times in 16 appearances for the side this season.
The 23 years old is also interesting Liverpool; the Merseyside’s now tutored by German man Jorgen Klopp; Klopp has good knowledge of the German league and knows what Xhaka can offer to his side, which is why the interest for Xhaka is on the cards. The Reds only have Lucas Leiva fit for the central midfield role with skipper Jordan Henderson just returning to the side.
Arsenal are said to be leading the chase for the Swiss midfielder who would be more than a welcome addition to their injury hit squad.
