Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle each other for the services of Torino striker Andrea Belotti, according to the Daily Star.
Belotti has been one of Torino’s best players this season, scoring 15 goals in 20 appearances so far and is now being chased by a host of top clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea have already been linked with the forward this season but Manchester United have now joined the race for his services.
Transfermarketweb.com claim scouts from Old Trafford were sent to watch the striker in action in the last few weeks.
It is clamed that Mourinho sees the forward as an alternative to Antoinne Greizmann who he has identified as his top target.
However, Belotti wouldn’t come cheap, the striker has an £84m release clause which Torino have insisted must be activated by any club interested in signing him.
Man Utd’s interest in Belotti isn’t surprising because he has been one of Serie A most consistent strikers over the last few years but their would be bad news for Arsenal as it would diminish any hope we had to sign him lower than his release clause.
Knowing Wenger’s history of frugality in the transfer market, there is no way we will pay the full clause to sign the player and United’s interest will all but end our hopes of signing him on a cheaper fee
