Reports are claiming that Arsenal are yet to open contract talks with Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain contrary to Arsene Wenger’s claims that the club have opened talks with winger.
Chamberlain is closing in on the last 18 months of his contract and there were speculations about his future earlier in the season that Wenger has become frustrated with the player’s development and could decide not to offer him a new deal.
In a bid to address those rumors, Wenger claimed in his prematch press conference that the club has initiated contract talks with the player.
But the Mirror via Goal has now revealed that Arsenal are yet to offer the player a new deal.
Chamberlain has been unable to command a regular place in Wenger’s starting xi since he joined in 2011 and has only completed 90 minutes just once this season.
With the player closing in on the peak of his career, he is worried about his situation at the Emirates and Wenger’s claims about a new contract when there is none on the table has only added to his growing frustration.
Wenger claiming the club is already in talks in the player could have been a tactic to avert further speculations about the winger’s future but he appears to have given the media something to feed on.
Chamberlain has started the Gunners last four games, impressing in all of them and should he continue to improve, he will place himself in a strong position in negotiations when Arsenal eventually begins contract talks with him.
