Arsenal are in need of a defensive midfield player since first choice defensive midfielder picked up an injury and would be out for 3 months. Francis Coquelin has been the rock behind the back four for the Gunners but picked up an injury in the Gunners 2-1 defeat to West Brom.
Arsene Wenger has identified Portuguese highly rated defensive midfielder, William Carvalho as one of his ideal players to replace the injured Coquelin. The 23 years old has been heavily linked with a switch to the Gunners in recent transfer windows but nothing has materialised for the Portugal international.
William’s contract with Sporting Lisbon expired in 2018 and he admitted that he is fond of Arsenal because of Thierry Henry, a player with whom he always enjoy watching. Premier league sides Chelsea and Liverpool are also reported to be interested in the combative midfielder with French giants also holding firm interest.
Carvalho is not short of suitors after his outstanding performance for the Portuguese U21 side where they lost in the European Championship final to Sweden via penalty shoot-out and Carvalho lost the decisive spot kick but he was crowned player of the tournament.
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has won 13 caps for the Portuguese national team so far. He would be a quality addition to the Gunners squad if they can beat other suitors to his signature.
